Overview

Turmeric is the ground rhizome (or root) of the herbaceous, tropical plant, Curcuma longa L. of the ginger family. The rhizomes have a acteristic, peppery, spicy aroma and a bitter, pungent taste. The essential constituent of turmeric is cucurmin, which provides the yellow color.


Usage

  • Yellow Rice with Peas
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in large skillet. Add 1/2 cup chopped onion; cook and stir 3 minutes. Add 1 cup long-grain rice, 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon Ground Turmeric; cook and stir 2 minutes. Stir in 2 cups chicken broth. Bring to boil; cover. Simmer 15 minutes. Stir in 1 cup frozen peas; cover. Cook 10 minutes or until rice is tender.
