Dried unripe fruit of a small evergreen tree, native to Southern Mexico and Central America but is now cultivated in many warm parts of the world. When ground, brown to dark brown color, spicy, aromatic. Its taste resembles a combination of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and pepper.
Used in Caribbean cuisine as well as for both sweet and savory dishes. Examples include Christmas pudding, cakes, cookies, French toast, pickles, marinades, and Jamaican Jerk Chicken among others.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and moisture.
